Recurring tasks: click vs. cmd+enter

I am confused with managing recurring tasks. For example

NOW Some task
SCHEDULED: <2021-11-08 Mon 05:00 .+1d>
  1. When I check such a task with the mouse, its status does not change, and the date gets +1 day.
  2. But when I mark it DONE with commad+enter, status changes, and date stays the same.

I think only the first case is the right way to manage recurring tasks.

Should I always use a mouse to mark such tasks done? Or there is a keyboard shortcut to mark such a task done and change its date?
