(Hope this question makes sense, I’m finding it difficult to describe what I mean exactly)
I’ve been going back and forth about whether the separation of #page and [[page]] and other changes make a huge difference for my notes, or if I’m simply so used to over-engineering that I’m unsure how to navigate simplicity
Obviously, the new version has a lot of things we’ve all asked for, so I don’t have any complaints, but I do think the db version is a paradigm shift in a couple pf ways, and I wonder how that shift is interacting with folks’ processes, philosophies, etc, if at all/much.
Well I’d say the biggest difference is the most obvious one. I.e. NewTags.
One of the biggest differences I’m going to implement is to use NewTags to better categoriee my notes.
For example an ‘idea’ tag for me will have the states of ‘New’, ‘In Process’, ‘Implemented’, and ‘Canecelled’.
That way I can easily manage my ideas and group them in a way that makes keeping on top of them more intuitive.
I’m also going to have a ‘#Issue’ tag which I’ll use for problems and concerns etc.
It will have statuses of ‘New’, and ‘Resolved’ and a ‘Solution’ property which links back to any node with the idea tag so I’ve got a nice little system to manage if an issue has been resolved and what the solution was.
Things like that will make project management smoother for me.
Currently I have those tags but they’re also tasks. There’s nothing wrong with that as such but this allows for more fine-tuning to organise the information in a more natural way for me.
Of course the above might change somewhat depending on the final version but it’s a good outline of my plans and I’ve already trialed it on the test site and I’m happy with how it works.
To my workflow this difference between tags and references will have a huge impact. One of the reasons why I liked the Logseq Way™️ is that I didn’t need to waste time thinking about whether something should be a tag or reference because of this and that.
I guess I will keep using references everywhere unless I need some sort of schema or state machine to be enforced on properties. Will see later, because my approach is exactly to not think about this and focus on writing and linking my notes.
There are some things I will be changing, to take advantage of the new DB features. Will I adopt all of the new features, probably not. Not because I’m trying to avoid change, but because my use of Logseq just doesn’t warrant their use.
