For others stumbling upon this post and having the same issue:
Make sure that you have a graph open when you want to set up a remote graph. If you have no graph open, the cloud icon does not appear in the top menu bar.

I just signed up to be a sponsor and have the same question. where do I go to ensure that the sponsorship is connected so that I can try the premium sync features?

All the instructions are in the Logseq Sync guide that you can find here (you can also find the link to this guide in the Logseq settings):

The key is to use the same email address on Open Collective as for your Logseq Sync account. If you’ve used a different email address, please send an email to support@logseq.com and mention with what email address you’ve donated and what’s the email address of your Logseq Sync account. I can then grant you access manually.
