Is Logseq just a rip-off of Roam Research or another note-taking program?

[I’m posting a number of questions, hopefully I or others will provide answers]

I can’t speak for the main developer(s) vision, but although it might be inspired by applications of Roam and other similar note taking apps, this project is unique in a couple of ways. These are the main benefits in my eyes compared to Roam:

  • It is open source and free, which contributes to it’s goal of providing privacy and longevity (the app won’t disappear in 5 years)
  • The development seems to be extremely fast and heavily based off feedback. Roam is a business with a product, and may be incentivized to focus on building their brand, gaining funding, etc, rather than actually improving the software in any substantial way
  • The project has opened for a lot of extensibility. I am thinking about plugins, but also the fact that the notes you are taking are stored in a repo in plaintext files. This means you can do whatever you would like with them, for example write custom separated scripts.
