I sometimes want to find a short bit of text that could be in journal files or page files that have not been marked specifically using tags. Does Logseq have this ability? It is not obvious to me. If it doesn’t I can use findstr on the command line to do searches of the mark down files. So I have an alternative way of doing this if necessary. I am just wanting to know if this function already exists within Logseq itself.
Try CTRL+k that brings up the global search.

As elfrinjo said, you can use CTRL + k
(on Windows and Linux) or CMD + k
(on Mac). You can also just click the icon in the top bar in Logseq.
If you want to see all shortcuts, click ?
in the bottom right (in Logseq) and then Keyboard shortcuts
