That’s great and all, but I can’t even login to sync anymore without it crashing the app. They’re putting the cart befroe the horse and not making it stable and providing the thing most of us want/need the most: reliable sync.
Logseq DB Sync is fairly reliable now. You should try it.
+1 to what danzu mentioned. they’ve spent significant dev time working to make sync more reliable. if you’re on the latest release and are having issues, bug reports are greatly appreciated!
How do we install logseq-db? Is it on aur? flatpak or appimage?
you have a few options, the easiest way by far is going to test.logseq.com. no install, consistent backups, very easy
you can also get the bleedibg edge nightly builds from Build-Desktop-Release · Workflow runs · logseq/logseq · GitHub for the DB version and there are options including appimages and many others
as a final alternative, you can pull from releases that are pushed somewhat in-between bleeding edge and very slow by downloading an artifact from a specific github action run: Build-Desktop-Release · logseq/logseq@1a162ae · GitHub
And is there anything on a package manager? Like aur, flathub, etc. I think I will wait until the “open beta”…
Not that I know of. The nightly artifacts aren’t even hosted permanently (there was a period a few weeks ago when all the existing builds were expired on GitHub
), so I think that will be difficult to have right now.
If you already are familiar with AppImage though, it’s really easy enough to go to the release page and download it for your OS.
Same as OP, been using Logseq for a couple years.
I now have changed to Trilium Notes and honestly never looked back.
I’ve been researching were to shift I’m probably going to land on Reflect.
Have a look at Octarine.
As far as I know, if the following points are required, then logseq has no substitute
- Stored in text format
- Block-level search (supporting AND, OR, and NOT operations for tags)
- Available on mobile devices
Exactly. If there’s no mobile option then there’s no need for me to switch to it. That’s the only reason I stopped funding Logseq.
Reflect is cool, but I’m not looking to get locked into an app that shuts down in a year and all my notes are lost or in some format no other app can read.
as a note the ios and android app have been getting updates for logseq. they’ll bith see more maturity over time and aren’t published to app stores yet, but i’m daily driving the android app for db with self hosted sync and haven’t ran into any issues
I really like Logseq. Saw there was an iOS TestFlight app. Thought they might finally be thinking of those of us who want to use multiple devices. Then found the sync doesn’t work with the self-hosted sync. Great that there is a roadmap, but there is too much on it. You just need to get your basic product working. It’s been a long time since you announced LogSeq DB. It looks great. But get the basics right. Focus! I’m out for now. I’ll come back in six months to see how you’re getting on, but I really worry that without focus you’re going to keep drifting. Do fewer things, really well!
hi Bryn, is there something specifically in the ios testflight app that wasn’t working for you? the self-hosted sync works for multiple devices. i personally use the android app with two laptops, but there are a larger number of users on ios with self-hosted sync enabled.
I tried Synctrain on iOS and couldn’t get it working and finally gave up.
Hi Jar,
I’ve migrated to the new Logseq on my PC, and besides some continued difficulty navigating the tags and hierarchy issues, I’m doing OK. I used Android FolderSync with GoogleDrive in the past, but don’t know how to set things up for the new SQL version. Is there any FAQ on setup of a sync tool that’s generic? I’m not sure how I’d set up a self-hosted system.
it’s definitely a lot to figure out all at once for self-hosting. good news is that the community has built some guides and tooling to help simplify the process
Here’s a guide to set it up with Tailscale - Self-hosting Logseq Sync locally using Docker & tailscale – Adrienne Teicher
Here’s one to set it up with Nginx Proxy Manager - Self-hosted Logseq Sync
a lot of valuable discussion has occurred in the discord self-hosted sync channel for the full discussion: Discord
I’ve come across this very early stage, local-first project. I’ve no affiliation, other than being a former Logseq user looking to regain some of the outliner functionality I loved and I’ve never quite achieved in Obsidian. Reliable sync seems to be a main selling point, although it still seems to have issues.
Possibly worth keeping an eye on, if not actually using. A Logseq import is being prioritised.
