Logseq OG (markdown) vs Logseq (DB:sqlite)

Hi everyone,

I’ve put together a comprehensive feature comparison chart between Logseq’s file-based (MD mode) and the newer DB-based versions. This should help users understand what’s available in each version and what’s coming soon.

Key Highlights:

The DB-based version includes several significant improvements:

  • Enhanced data presentation with Gallery View, Kanban View, and Calendar View (coming soon)

  • Advanced Properties and Collection/Attributes functionality

  • Tag/Class capabilities

  • Superior performance with larger graphs and node content support

  • Improved UX with better Design System and Accessibility

  • More reliable sync capabilities

Platform Coverage: Both versions support Web, iOS, iPadOS, and Desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux), with Android support coming soon for DB-based.

Important Notes: Several features marked as “coming soon” in DB mode include Android support, Whiteboard, and Publishing capabilities.

I hope this helps those considering the transition or trying to understand the differences between the two versions.

I will occasionally update the table.

Feel free to ask questions or suggest corrections!

If I save this image as a .jpg and zoom in, the table is not legible.

How about dropping an .xlsx version of the file, or maybe csv?

I’m on a Mac. When I click the image, I see a version that fills the screen. Then I click that image and it goes full-size. Then I save the big version and I can read it all fine.

I think you’re saving the thumbnail image in the post.

So based on this comparison, you would advice that migration time is now if you don’t need the features Logseq DB is missing compared with Logseq OG?

Yes, you’re right. I can read the schedule perfectly now. Thanks for the remark.

Click on the image, It will zoom in.

If you do not need the improvements on DB, then you can contnue using the MD version.

So, how the sync would work with Syncthing?

As I’m considering a transition to DB, did I read right that LogSeq MD will be split in a seperate version with only maintenance updates further on ?

Will the DB version then still be able to save a DB graph as markdown, and will compatibility with markdown remain central to DB ?

Or will LogSeq effecitvely no longer be a markdown note taking software ?

@danzu might you know ?

if I read it right, syncthing won’t sync the DB but any md files (not necessarily updated) and other assets will sync.
