It would be a nice QOL to be able to scroll the page via keyboard, with the cursor still staying in its location. Ctrl +/- is the usual shortcut for this action in other applications.
I know this isn’t exactly what you want, but have you considered using one of the “typewriter mode” plugins? While you’re typing, the text is moved to keep the cursor in the centre of the screen. I find they are a little clunky (they don’t move text until you start typing), but it was definitely a QOL improvement when I no longer typed beyond the bottom of the screen.
Also, which applications use Ctrl +/- to move text? Is that a Mac thing? Ctrl +/- is usually zoom for most apps I use. But if you mean what Ctrl e/y and Ctrl d/u do in Vim, then I’d be interested in that shortcut too.
Ah sorry, I meant Ctrl + ↑/↓, not +/-. And that one is used widely (interestingly a rare example of another app that doesn’t is Obsidian, maybe it’s a markdown thing?).
Thanks for the typewriter plugin suggestion, not really a solution for me for this particular issue, but I can see it being useful for some other stuff, that I had not opportunity to whine about, yet.
